"DynoRyder: '10:53 P.M.'"
Kieran flinched, when he heard a loud crash of thunder, followed shortly by a bright streak of lightning that flashed across the sky, and he bit back a whimper as he closed his eyes tightly. He huddled back against the tree, in the small clearing they set their camp up in, using the large Balba leaves as protection from the sky above.
The rest of his team, and their own Saurians, were sound asleep, seemingly safe from the storm that reeked havoc in Kieran's mind. Allagon and Dionaero were cuddled next to one another, sleeping comfortably beside Codex, who was sitting up against a tree, looking as if he was sleeping like a newborn pup that was full of milk.
Kieran took a deep breath and laid his head back against the bark, shivering slightly from the cold and he pulled his 'blanket' around him as he did. He tried to calm down enough to sleep, but nothing worked. And he was beginning to grow restless, as well as more frightened of the storm around them.
"Kieran..." Kieran's head snapped forward, a gasp leaving his lips, and he looked at Codex, who was staring at him with unreadable crimson eyes.
"C-Codex..." Kieran frowned, sitting up straight. "W-what are you doing up? Y-you're supposed to be asleep, like everyone else."
"So are you." Codex said, without a beat and Kieran stiffened, letting out a shuttering breath. "So, why aren't you?"
"U-um..." Kieran looked away from Codex and tried to think of any excuse he could to get the taller Velon off his back. "I-I couldn't sleep, so I decided to stay up and keep watch over the camp... y-you know, so nothing d-dangerous can creep in and bite our heads off?" He finished with a small squeak and he barely saw Codex smirk.
"Like the storm, you mean?" Kieran blushed a dark red, at having been caught with his fear, and closed his eyes tightly, not even bothering to stop the tears flowing freely down his cheeks now. He heard a sigh and a ruffle of leaves before he felt someone beside him, "I'm sorry..." Codex murmured, wrapping his arms around Kieran and he sat back, pulling the smaller Velon into his lap, murmuring soft and calming words to him. "You don't have to be afraid... I'm here," he said, smiling softly when he noticed Kieran relaxing a bit, "I'll protect you." He added in a promise and it wasn't long before Kieran was asleep, safe from the storm that caused him torment, and comfortable in his best friend's arms. "Sweet dreams, Ran..."
